UVA Light

UV Light

UV rays are short wavelength light waves that come from the sun and occupy the part of the light spectrum between visible light and x-rays.

UVA – The aging rays
Our lovely golden tan comes from the UVA rays, but these can also cause premature ageing and constant exposure can damage eyesight.

UVB – The burning rays
These are the nastier rays. UVB light cause sunburn and can quickly damage eye tissue with extensive exposure. UVB rays increase your risk for certain types of cataracts too. It is estimated that 10% of all cataract cases are directly attributable to UV exposure. UVB rays also increases your risk of developing macular degeneration, photokeratitis and skin cancer, especially on those delicate eyelids!

UVC – The cosmic rays.
The shortest wavelength UV rays are UVC and are the most damaging of all. The good news however is that presently mother nature is protecting us from these as they are currently absorbed by our atmosphere and don’t actually reach the earth’s surface but are kept out in the cosmos.

The Good News….
Sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection can help protect your eyes from these harmful rays, reducing brightness and protect your eyes against the damaging effects of UV light. We all know darker sunglasses decrease the amount of visible light that passes through the lenses, but they don’t necessarily provide better protection from UV rays. For the best protection make sure your sunglasses block UV, regardless of the colour of the lenses.

Why Polarised Lenses?
With Harley Masons Cat 3 Polarised lenses we’ve taken it one step further , not only do our lenses protect your eyes from the harmful UVA/UVB rays we have included glare control too. Glare is scattered light that reflects off surfaces like water, sand, snow, buildings, roads and even the hood of your car and gets in the way of our vision when we want to see things further away! All of our lenses contain a special polarising filter that blocks these unwanted reflections, taking you to the next level of vision clarity and comfort while still doing the important job of protecting your eyes.
